Pyrgos Greece a picturesque hamlet

When it comes to the beautiful island villages of Greece Oia, and Fira comes to our mind instantly, but Greece has a total of 1400 different islands with unique villages. Pyrgos is such a village that boasts unparalleled charm and tranquility. Filled with blue domes, cave houses, ruins, gorgeous cafes, one-of-a-kind shops, souvenirs, and the most preserved medieval village with intriguing centuries-old history.  It's worth a trip if you are visiting Santorini as it is only 5 miles (8 kilometers) away from Fira, the capital of Santorini.

This ancient capital of Santorini and also the tallest village of Santorini, Pyrgos is full of whitewashed Cycladic architecture and this village can be traced back to the 13th century. There are 48 total churches here and the Church of Agios Nikolaos at the top of the mountain overseeing the village is stunning.  Far away from the bustling crowd of Oia and Fira Pyrgos is an absolute serene escape from the crowd. Nested in the hill, the village executes a panoramic view of the island Fira and Oia and the whole of Santorini in distance. The location and positioning on the elevation make it quite interesting and take you through the narrow winding lanes, hidden passages, white walls, and ruins. The Venetian castle that is nested on the top of the hill was built in 1580. It sits 350 meters/1150 ft above sea level. Walking in the off-beat streets you feel like you are in a time machine and walking in the past.
