I had been to Gillette castle many times and twice inside, but don't know why it took me a while to blog about this unique castle and the state park. Just 30 minutes from Connecticut's capital, Hartford, it sits right above a cliff overlooking the Connecticut River. This amazing stone castle's outdoors is as mesmerizing as it is indoors. It has many characters, whether intricately carved wooden doors, bars, walls, or as detailed as wooden switchboards. While visiting this castle, you admire this incredible man called William Gillette, his vision, and the creative ideas that were incorporated to build this castle. It took us back to 1912. William Gillette, an accomplished actor who portrayed Sherlock Holmes, was born in Hartford in 1853 and discovered this location on a boat trip on the Connecticut River in 1912. Generally, in the daily grind or claustrophobic life, those who want to escape instantly without going on vacation often find sanity in their neighborhood park. And my answer to that in Connecticut is the Wickham park, tucked in greenery and rolling hills, in 250 acres consisting of 10 unique gardens, whether you want to go for the whole day or want to spend a few hours with a short walk, nothing better than this. In my home state winter's splendid Silver Night and spring's dreamy Daffodil Fest Hubbard Park is a go-to park in any season. Sheltered in hills, greens, water streams and flower gardens consisting approximately 1,800 acres of land is love at first sight. Visit for a picnic, playground, a hike or soaking in the sun with natural esthetics. Personally more than festivity or any occasion, I love to visit the park when it's less crowded and you can absolutely feel the true essence of the park's serene scene especially in spring when nature strokes the earth and make its own canvas.
