Market Place Kitchen and Bar, Avon CT - Review

There is always something about new whether it's New Year, a new song or new company, there is a bit of freshness, charm, promise and thrill to it. As a foodie, new restaurants always do the same for me. Market Place Kitchen is a newly opened restaurant in Avon that we recently ventured.     A high ceiling open modern kitchen and a brick wall with a fireplace, it felt cozy at first glance. I was quite impressed with the service in spite of a full pack Friday evening; they served gently and gracefully.     We began with a Mediterranean sample platter consisting of roasted red pepper, hummus, falafel and eggplant puree with Nan. I got hook to the way it is presented on a cutting board. Falafel was crisp and scrumptious. Hummus was whipped and velvety, Olives slightly bitter succulent, sweet cornichons were complimenting to it.      For mains, we got Garden flatbread for kids. The flatbread was flavorful with healthful garden vege...

Truffle, Farmington, CT Review

Some weekends I just want to relax and be lazy. In fact, the term relaxation carries till the food I order, where I don’t want to give myself trouble on going through a long menu. There are no such restaurants nearby. Then my hometown restaurant, Truffles came to the rescue. I had the pleasure to enjoy Truffle. Casual, cute restaurant Truffle with options of vegetarian and glutton free food. Most sandwiches are less than 10 dollars except Lobster Panini. Good for quick, casual lunch bite. We ordered Hummus Wrap ( Baby greens, cucumbers, tomato, feta and house-made hummus on spinach wrap) and Focaccia Mozzarella (( Fresh Mozzarella, tomato, green leaf lettuce and basil pesto on grilled herbed focaccia bread.). Both came with pasta on the side and a piece of cake, which was a fun factor for the kids. The food was nothing fancy yet tastes fresh and palatable, makes you choose truffle over any chain restaurant. They have a huge bakery section with cakes to cookies. Truffle has a...

Popover Bistro & Bakery review

My four-year-old daughter just picked up from Trolls that life is all about cupcakes and rainbows. Probably at some point in your life, a girl in you believes that. No matter how old you are, like me, a mother of two, still a girl in you always stay there. Especially, I always feel that way in my birthday. Probably that’s what brought me into the Popover, an elegant upscale brunch cum lunch in Simsbury . Pastel theme color sea green and teal blue with beautiful seating arrangement with chic, charming chandelier, Popover is a beautiful place to be, an urban new era menu, with interesting signature smoothies and various breakfast options. They offer Organic Hojicha Green Tea and spatiality coffee. They have options for glutton free and both vegetarian and vegan. It was lovely to notice that they served water in Mason jars.  We ordered quinoa spinach burger and veggie popover with two smoothies. Quinoa spinach burger, I was expecting a healthy versi...

India, West Hartford

When you move from one country to another country you probably carry your food memories along with all the other memories. After moving from India to the US, we visited many Indian restaurants from East coast to West coast. Most of the time, I failed to get that authentic Indian taste. Most restaurants had the same taste and same color whether its chicken Tikka or vegetable Korma. Somewhere, I lost interest in visiting Indian restaurants. But, there are a couple of times when you get that taste you are looking for. We recently heard that a new Indian restaurant had opened nearby to our city. I was hopeful to visit because it is the Thali brand, it is popular for its incredible Indian taste. India , West Hartford was a good find. We were there for lunch. Modern contemporary, clean set up was great with Indian touch like displaying framed saree and using colors like scarlet red and jet black which you rarely see in an Indian restaurant in the US. We recently visited India . F...
