Every city in the world has its own tale. When we visited Barcelona on our trip to Spain, we loved its cosmopolitan and multicultural vibe, admired its Gothic and contemporary Sagrada Familia, and were mesmerized by Park Güell and lost in the Picasso museum. When we arrived in Madrid, a whole new tale, distinct from Barcelona, awaited us. Bespoke yet dynamic, Madrid boasts a huge cultural heritage, flavorful food, art, vibrant street life, and shopping, offering a whole new way to rediscover Spain.
Plaza Mayor: Grandeur and pomp, nestled in the heart of the city, Plaza Mayor is one of the most iconic landmarks worth visiting. Hustle and bustle, this ancient marketplace is surrounded by artists, shops, and cafes. Taking a stroll and enjoying a cup of coffee or tea provides a good insight into the vibrant Spanish culture. It could feel like you're in a time machine, or enjoy people-watching.
Parque del Retiro: When we entered the Parque del Retiro, it felt like the gentle breeze of air, while the city was busy and bustling. Here, people walk, jog, and practice yoga at their own pace. Paddle in the lake, visit the picturesque garden with numerous trees, sculptures, and pretty fountains, and take an Instagram-worthy photo in the glass castle or bask in the Sun. Nothing is less than awesome and easy breezy.
The Prado Museum: A Madrid trip can't be complete without a visit to the Prado, not just a visit, but a chance to marvel at some great artists and their surreal muse. Exhibits include works by Francisco Goya, Hieronymus Bosch, El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, Titian, and Diego Velázquez. The museum has a collection of Art from different eras and times and is considered Spain's main national art museum.
Puerta Del Sol: The hustle and bustle and full of life, this cool square offers shopping for every budget. Here, you can also savor the local cuisine, enjoy the performances of local artists, and get a glimpse of the Spanish cultural scene.
Royal Palace of Madrid: This elegant and magnificent structure has been the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family since 1561. The impressive architecture attracts so many tourists every year.
