Attending NYFW F/W 24 at Global Fashion Collective

Living in a peaceful suburb in Connecticut, I always get psyched up visiting boisterously beautiful NYC - especially during Fashion Week when the swanky city gets even swankier. I have attended NYFW in Global Fashion Collective for the last few seasons. Yet, I am fascinated every time I attend and witness talented designers from around the globe,  and most importantly, each designer brings a bit of their country, culture, and art to NYFW. I am always in awe and amazed by Global Fashion Collective's knack for finding such one-of-a-kind designers. NAOKO TOSA  Sound of Ikebana This season unfolds with Nakaotosa,  Sound of Ikebana, the unexpected yet exciting opening where an art piece comes on the digital screen, and the model comes wearing the same design as if art comes into life. The brain behind the brand is a Professor of  Kyoto University, a new media artist, and The NY Museum of Modern Art Collection artist; her runway show at NYFW showcased a ready-to...

What to wear for NYFW

Hi There, For the first time, I missed my 1st Show this season in NYFW as the weather has been really bad on the East Coast. T orrential  downpours and power cuts had happened, which was enough reason to create gridlocks. I usually stay in New York during NYFW , but this season I had 3 shows on the same day and I decided not to stay in the city but to return the same day to cope with my kid's busy schedules. Our home to NYC is a 2-hour drive and today it took 4 hours, so I couldn't attend my 1st show as most shows run on time.  However, I wanted to share what I wore for the show. How I decide what to wear for the show. Creating an ideal look to attend such a show takes a lot of thought and ideas. Looking good is just one criteria, but the look should be such that it not only creates an impact but at the same time it should align with your personal style. A statement look is always good for Big 4, and uncomfortableness is the last thing we opt for. In addition, we have to kee...

Beauty of life and outfit of the day

I have a habit of not throwing things away. Keep them with me for years and years. This also creates a little trouble in my life from time to time. People who advocate minimalist approach, say that it is not just clot and clutters your physical lifestyle and mental state. I have old New Year cards sent by my school friends, a small container that mom sent snacks couples of years back; there are so many countless things, a little swan by brother's friend bought with his pocket money, my paper where I received a great compliment from my teacher. Not only physical attributes, but fragrances, little fragments of childhood lullabies, a  small conversation, people names, compliments, so many things stay with me.        If you are a mother or parent, you might know how much your child's milestone memories matter to you. Just the other day we had our community get together. I was planning on what to wear, then an old saree came to my mind, ...

Bridging two cultures and outfit of the day

The last couple of days had been really warm here, almost felt like mid-July. Not that I don't like warm days in New England when we always complain about the long winter. Yesterday the temperature dropped to a little chili. Feeling of the Fall is always wonderful. I felt like as if I am in India, Assam my home state. Felt like waking up in the morning walking on the lawn barefoot, foggy and hued and with all the festive buzz around. Now I am in New England, missing Indian festivities, so thought of posting a custom made Mekhela Chadar grey and orange, which I got from Assam when I visited last time from Xipini By Kanishka Gogoi Mahanta. A very contemporary appeal with a traditional touch. I accessorized it with antique finish gold jewelry. The outfit is ideal for both day and night. Also, the melange of the two colors, the brightness of orange and mildness of grey portraits the balance of fall  between summer and winter.       As you al...

A little bit of Sky (Thoda sa Aasman) - #OOTD

I don't recall when exactly, but that time in the early 90s, there was one Indian TV drama series called Thoda sa Aasman"(A little bit of Sky). The series emphasized on women inner world, and her sensitivities. And the serial also portraited several different women from the various walks of life. Even when I was very young, the serial stayed with me, not sure because of the stories or because of the name of the series. I feel that life is always all about a little bit of earth and a little bit of sky. The earth keeps you grounded and real. On the other hand, sky adds color to your dreams and imagination. "Thoda        It's about six months now since I started my blog and three months now since I posted it public. It's an incredible feeling how you all responding to my blog. It feels amazing reading all your comments,  how you took time reading it and writing back to me, it means a lot.        This we...

Bespoke Banarasi,Bell sleeve ,Tassel earring...#ootd

Spring is in the air with wonderful weather, flower power and much more to look forward to. I look forward to wear more spring-summer outfits as well as sarees. Some of the most popular spring trends I see these days are dramatic bell sleeve and tassel earrings everywhere. Bell sleeves are super stylish and fuzz free. Tassel earrings are major trend this year. I very often sport them with my western dresses.      As you guys know my love for mekhela-chadar and my love for banarasi/bespoke weaves are not any less then one another. I get little hopeful and adventurous. Why not incorporate these latest trends in Saree. Here I am in a black Banarasi Saree with pink green and purple lotus motif and silver leaves with pink velvet boarder. This Saree has a very contemporary and modern appeal to it and is perfect for a soiree. The saree is very light and comfortable to wear. Someone like me who is not perfect in draping can easily wear this sar...
