Kaneen A new age Assamese movie

Most movies end when they are supposed to, but there are a few that carry on beyond their conclusion, even while characters talk, walk, and sleep. I recently watched the Assamese movie called Kaneen, directed by Monjul Baruah. I carried the ache, the pain, and the tears within me after watching it. It was released in August 2019 in Guwahati. It is now available.  Here  worldwide for an audience like me.  Kaneen has already won several awards and has been screened in several national and international film festivals. It is an adaptation of the acclaimed and award-winning Assamese novel by Dr. Rita Choudhary and Rajib Ishwar. Directed by Monjul Baruah, Kaneen's carefully constructed screenplay shines through delicately . The story unfolds in urban Assam. A bureaucrat's wife, Mandira Baruah's, tightly knit life seems perfect from the outside. A happy life with two children and a busy yet affectionate police officer husband. The tsunami comes when she discovers...

Humble tribute to Irrfan Khan and my top favorite movies

In an industry like Bollywood, it's all about page three and glamour. But Irrfan Khan defined real, authentic, and was all about raw talent. He made his mark in global cinema, yet he was more of an actor than a star. His success is a fruit of resilience and hard work.  Started Journey from many iconic Indian TV series like "Bharat Ek khoj", "Star Bestseller", "Shrikant", to Global cinema-like Life of Pi, The Warrior, Jurassic World, Inferno, The Namesake, watching him on screen is sheer bliss for any moviegoer. Recipient of Padmashree, the 4th highest Civilian Award in India, Irrfan Khan's impeccable dialogue delivery, exclusive comic timing, and soulful and subtle romance will remain in our hearts forever.  Losing Irrfan Khan untimely on 29th April 2020 is an irreparable loss. Born in Jaipur on January 7, 1967, Irrfan's departure was mourned by the entire nation as a personal loss, as he had paved a path for many. His legacy of one-...

Village Rockstars in MOMA , NYC

The Village Rockstars, when they first started, the name itself, I felt the impact and power of it, way before watching the movie. Several nights, I got goosebumps thinking about and wondering about Rima Das, who single-handedly wrote, directed, cinematographed, and produced the film with a single handheld camera. Truly a one-woman show. Indeed, I was looking for every opportunity to watch the movie for several months. On December 17th, Village Rockstars, the Assamese film, was screened at MOMA in NYC. The first Indian film to be screened in MoMA, I just couldn't resist.        Village Rockstars, solace, and the soothing of being so real and relatable with a great dose of emotional and visual sensitivity.  Set in the quaint village of Assam, a 10-year-old girl named Dhunu dreams of owning a guitar one day. Away from over-drama and the glamorous world, village rockstars portray little slices of life's hope, aspiration, dream, ...

Humble tribute to Sridevi and her top 8 favorite movies.

By Laura Lee Dooley from Arlington, VA, USA - IIFA-2014-GreenCarpet2 (215) , CC BY 2.0 , Link       Even before my teen, whenever she appeared on the big screen, my eyes got outstruck with aw by her beauty. She is unbelievably beautiful, like a dream. Such was her impact on a little girl. In India,  from kids to senior citizens, village to city, her beautiful dreamy eyes drawn a thousand dreams breaking class, color, and language barriers, every time she appears on the screen.  Yes, she is none other than the indisputable queen of Bollywood, Sridevi. Her stardom was quite different, and the word actor was used for the first time for an Indian female actor is Sridevi. At the age of 54, her untimely demise on 24th February last month created a massive vacuum and void in India and abroad in the hearts of every art affectionate. At the age of 4 started her acting debut, Sridevi acted in almost 300 films in 6 languages with several national awards and India'...

Kheer - Anupam Kher's short film debut

I took Anupamji's picture during his visit to Connecticut for performing "Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha" Presented by Terribly Tiny Talkies, stand out starring by ever amazing Anupam Kher, Natasha Rastogi and child actors Stuti Dixit and Abhimanyu Chawla, directed by Surya Balakrishnan and written by Sharanya Rajagopal and Surya Balakrishnan. A story took place when grandkids came home to visit their grandfather, where the grandfather, played by Anupam Kher is in a tricky situation of introducing his lady friend to his grandkids. It was a great cinematic experience of 6 minutes 44 seconds. It is like Indian Kheer full of sweet flavor and twist of spice (cardamom). Like making kheer, one has to be picky incorporating all the ingredients, dry fruits to hint of cardamom. It was exactly same experience with Short film kheer, a wisely depicted middle-class life with every single detail including a not working wall clock, to a worn out sofa instead of modern-day interi...
