Post Diwali look

I don't know about you, but for me, the holiday's mindless eating showered me with much love, yeah, a bit of weight gain.  Post- Diwali  celebrations are going on, and I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year.  Last week, I visited a friend for a small, casual post-Diwali celebration and the week of Halloween. Yup, Halloween was in my mind, hence the black. I chose a black a-line salwar with lots of pleats, and it easily hides my Diwali love handles (love handles). Added a pair of silver earrings, a large black bindi, and neutral sandals. The rest of the look is simple, featuring minimal makeup and an easy, natural hairdo. I hope you like the look.

A springy saree day in a winter afternoon

Winter seems like really long this year. I am looking forward to spring. Looking forward to the more springy outfit. A few days back it was my birthday and wanted to wear something different and something springy too. And then I have this blue Thakai jamdani muslin saree, but the saree asks for more spring or summer weather. Spring is a little far and I wanted to feel like spring and then the idea of wearing a saree came to me. Blue is always my favorite and this saree has three colors - yellow gold, rose gold and silver creepers on the sides. I went easy on accessories with this silver earring from my  Spain  trip and the bracelet with delicate filigree Spanish silver work. My hair and makeup is basic and minimal. The saree is feathery soft and easy to wear. Someone like me can easily wear it, who is not really an expert in wearing saree.  This saree is casually worn at home and hope you like it.

Indian festival look #3

Indian festivity brings never-ending options and ways of dress up. The routes you want to take can be contemporary, classic, traditional or basics. This time I took the basic or classic route. When it comes to classic, gold, and red is the most quintessential color in Indian culture. Whether it is a wedding or festivity you will at least find one or two wearing red or gold or a combination, yet you can't deny it's timeless appeal. Here is my Indian festival look #3, a gold muga silk mekhela chadar and a red Assam silk blouse and rest of the look is simple basic gold neck piece, bangle and chain clutch. The look would be incomplete without red nails and red lips. Do let me know your take. Indian festival look #1 Indian festival look #2

Indian festival look #2

I find myself waking up and playing in the lawn in a beautiful fall morning or festive time in India making a flower garland with Sewali phool (night jasmine). Ah, nostalgia. During this time the weather is neither cold nor hot with fall flower endorsing the beginning of the festive season. Yes, I miss this not being there, yet I feel wonderful and fortunate to celebrate the festivity of the two culture and the two countries here.       If you follow me or read my blog, then you might have seen the Indian festive  look 1 . Here I am sharing Indian festival look 2. I love collecting sarees, while traveling to India I always pick up sarees. This saree is a couple of years back mint green silver and gold border with big parsley motifs and a hint of pink lining edge on the border. I kept it simple with a pink potli and ruby studded Jhumka earing and pink jutti (flat Indian pump) which I abso...

Outfit of the day Kunal Kaushik, Sabyasachi in Assam convention

Designer:  Kunal Kaushik,  an acclaimed designer and a born artist, Kunal designs resplendent and redefining Assamese traditions, an elusive weave that lures one into his signature rhythm and rendition, which merges relevant global sensibilities.  A dreamy cream mekhela chadar warp and weft, featuring Assamese motifs, Dhulia and Nasani (the drummer and damsel dancer), with Kunal's quintessential use of color, including shocking fuchsia pink and periwinkle purple in Mina. After wearing Kunal , I felt like a modern princess. Kunal's designs are not just to wear but to cherish and celebrate. No wonder Kunal is seen as an avant-garde designer. Event: Assam Convention -The Assam Convention is a celebration of the Assamese diaspora in North America, where the Assamese community comes together to showcase Assamese culture, food, traditional talent, and invited artists. Every year, it is celebrated on the July 4th weekend in various cities around North America. This time...

Easy breezy Indian summer outfit of the day

“I almost wish we were butterflies and liv'd but three summer days - three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.”  ― John Keats       This year in east cost winter was way too long. After feeling like a decade of hibernation, spring/summer finally arrives. When you step into something after long anticipation, it certainly feels precious.  Here we are not just enjoying the beautiful weather, but amping it up with summer fashion.      Just the other day I visited a friend and wore this easy breezy suit. One might not like the fitting as it is little loose fitted. Sometimes I prefer easy breezy suit in summer days, it gives you more comfort than the fitted one.  A neon pink silk kurta which I team up with a neon green sharara and a parrot green banarasi georgette dupatta. For accessories, just a pair of earring and a cocktail ring. The colors were quite statemented so you...

Bihu outfit of the day and finding my way

Every celebration in the world is associated with some kind of color. When somebody talks about Christmas, the red, green and gold always come to mind. Bihu  is a celebration related to colors like red and beige (in Assamese we call it muga color). This year we visited Boston for Bihu celebration. While deciding on an outfit, I chose a muga color mekhela chadar and a red bell sleeve top. I skip the blouse because I wanted to give a modern twist.       My love affair with mekhela chadar had started long back. But only thing stopping me from wearing it was that my plates were never perfect. When I was in my 20s, whenever I had to wear mekhela chadar , I always had an excuse for not getting proper plates.  In my 30s and now I am more comfortable, and I found my way to wear it, giving it a modern twist by either wearing modern accessories or chic blouse instead of the typical ones. Even now I am not getting perfect in wear...

New Hope New beginning, Sweet Sixteen OOTD

How is the new year treating you?  Freshness and positivity always bring hope, isn't it?       I recently attended a friends daughter's sweet sixteen birthday party. Sweet sixteen is beginning of adulthood. The energy and hope of sweet sixteen is unmatched. Sweet sixteen is a year of dream and aspiration. When I look back to my sweet sixteen, I was always dreaming about writing. Probably that dream of mine became reality today. Doing something you like has more love than anything else. Here is my outfit post for the sweet sixteen. It was an Indian theme party, so I wore Indian Rohit Bal dress. It came with a legging but I switched it with a black skirt I already own. I wore red lips and added a brocade potli bag. Just to give the whole traditional affair a modern touch, I wore a pair of Suhani Petit earrings.  Do let me know how you like it.
