A few favorite do list in New Haven, Connecticut

I am a little down and sad about not being able to visit my family in India this summer, but I'm also staying home and exploring the old and new places my home state, Connecticut, has to offer. Every time, I am pleasantly surprised with awe and countless unique discoveries. Frankly speaking, I don't do much planning and take it in a very relaxed way. This weekend, my destination was New Haven. Full of charm, history, character, and exuberance, the home of Yale, you can enjoy New Heaven in numerous ways. Bustling and beautiful alleys, art galleries, museums, library, bookstores, unique shops, parks, and a plethora of delightful food, New Haven serves every unique visitor's claim.

Stroll around the architectural digest of Yale - If you love the Gothic architecture charm of the bygone era, this America's 3rd oldest and most prestigious University campus, an alma mater of many glitterati, is truly unique in every sense.   The dense greenery and acute, carefully curated, and attention-to-detail architecture transcend allure and opulent beauty. Something only seeing and believing. Like many things, Covid-19 has halted here, and tours are unavailable. I assure you, you will not be disappointed strolling around and being smitten by the enchantress 1700-1800 era architectural aesthetics.  The incredible arches on the red brick buildings, gates, and windows are all enchanting.

Lighthouse Point Park A quaint 82-acre park on Long Island Sound with the oldest and most gorgeous lighthouse far and near is worth a visit. A Picturesque Park for whether you like to stroll, love finding shells, set a picnic with family, enjoy the antique carousel, witness the sunset, or maybe change the colors of the sky so that nature strokes its brush; you have the option for all with ample parking spaces.

Experience and eat at the Quirky Indian restaurant Sherkaan. No trip would be complete without experiencing the local food culture. A surprise package just across the Yale campus, miles of quirky decor, and an array of Indian food will surely satisfy your taste buds. I enjoyed eating chole Bhatura, Frankie's roll, Masala Dosa, and garlic nan, and there are many more left to try. Whether you want to enjoy inside with unique aesthetics or outside with Yale's youthful energy.

Take a break; New Haven Greens traces its roots back to 1638. Visit this park to find solace in the city, surrounded by three historic churches and five illustrious streets in New Haven.

Immerse yourself in the lush greenery of East Rock Park. Amidst glossy and lush greenery, with a view of the rocky mountain, a little river walk, you will fall in love with this Park. Whether you are an avid hiker or love leisurely walks, you can enter this park in two different ways. One option is to find a covered bridge, a water dam, and dirt roads along the way to the summit, or another, which features a 425-acre park with winding trails and wildflowers. Witness the panoramic view of the city and a glimpse of the Long Island Sound.

A single post can't cover a whimsical city like New Haven. With COVID-19 restrictions, it is difficult to visit museums and some of my bucket list iconic eating places. With a promise of coming back with another post in another season.

My favorite pieces of Assamese Traditional jewelry

My grandmother's thuria, age-old and heirloom jewelry, of course, not part-able         A piece of jewelry echoes a region's rich heritage, aesthetics and sensibilities and Assamese jewelry does not differ from that. A piece of jewelry not just enhances the wearer's beauty but identity as well.       A land of flamboyant rivers engulfed in exotic flora and fauna, birds, musical instruments Assamese jewelry is highly inspired by that. Sharing a few assamese pieces of jewelry from my personal collection.       An Assamese bride's dress up is incomplete without Assamese jewelry. Traditionally Assamese jewelry is purely handmade. The main frame is made out with 24-carat gold and lac is used as a filling material. Stones are studded on the top.  The creatively and meticulously studded stone craftsmanship resembles with pomegranate seeds. The color and texture of the stone are opulent and lurid jus...

Jurun...an assamese beautiful pre-wedding ceremony

Indian weddings encompass many beautiful ceremonies and traditions. In Assamese culture, Jurun is a pre-wedding ceremony. It usually occurs a day or two before the wedding day, sometimes even on the same day of the wedding. A tradition where the groom’s family, especially women, visit the bride's family to present the wedding trousseau (Mekhela chadar), jewelry, some makeup, and accessories. In my belief, a tradition that welcomes the bride to her new family with gifts, love, and blessings.  On the day of Jurun, Aam Dali godha (A stringed mango leaf) is a tradition and is tied over the door. It is believed that it will ward off all bad energy and bring good luck to the newlyweds. Usually, jurun happens in the morning or before noon. The goom does not accompany the group. Before going to the bride's home, the groom and his family get blessings from the people who gather for the jurun. Another tradition associated with Jurun is filling two small bell metal vases (called l...

Bartaco, West Hartford , Connecticut review

It was a usual February day, the chill felt like tucking in the furry comforter and stay cozy at home. But, the matter of the fact was that it was my birthday  and my family wanted me to take out for dinner. I was reluctant and wanted to stay at home. My little one was after me and I couldn't say no. I had no clue where we were heading for dinner and then here we were at the Bartaco. Vivacious Bartaco instantly took away my winter sluggishness. With a gracious greeting, modern contemporary laid back sitting and a bit of hustle and bustle made me alive in the winter freezing February. The high ceiling, ivory walls, earthy light shades stroked a tropical vibe and the food spoke a lot about Mexico and Latin America. As a sober, I chose housemade pomegranate lemonade and hubby got grapefruit ginger juice. I never had pomegranate lemonade before, I must say it was one of the coolest and refreshing lemonade I have ever had. The tint of lemonade not just took the look but ...
